Baby's Development - Week 15

This week has been great! It's such a blessing and miracle from God to know that our little one is growing and getting bigger and stronger everyday! This portion of baby's development is always brought to you by The Bump, however this weeks' message is a bit personal so we thought it best to cover up some of it, but as always, enjoy!

Baby's Development - Week 14

As always here is your lovely update on how big the baby is at this point. Last week I mentioned that some books and websites indicate that the 13th week is either the last of the first trimester or the first of the second so either way, today marks 14 weeks that we've been pregnant and no matter what, we're finally in the second trimester for sure! What a praise and relief to have made it this far!

The Rogue

We just bought our first car! We've been married for over two and a half years and we've been driving the one I had in college and one that Adam was given courtesy of a couple we knew at our last church (which was such a huge blessing)! However, Adam's car is close to twenty years old with 240,000+ miles on it and several items need to be replaced. With the baby growing in my belly, we decided that the best thing to do was to start looking for a reliable family car. When I got to thinking of all my friends who've recently had babies in the past two to three years, all of them have an SUV. We agreed that that's what we wanted to look into buying since SUVs offer more space.

Needless to say this whole process was crazy and hectic and downright scary, but we  prayed over this asking God to simply help us find the best car for our family and praise His name, we found this little sucker, the Nissan Rogue! It was absolutely the best deal for us. It was reasonably priced (we got a great deal on it--$2,000 cheaper than any where else within a 90 mile radius), it had low mileage (only 36,000), is a newer model (a 2009 edition), and best of all, according to U.S. News report, it received a 10.0 in safety! We drove out to visit Adam's family right after we got it and it did great! We are so thankful that God provided for us with just what we needed at just the right time!

Preggo Stats--Week 13

How far along: 13 weeks
Total weight gain: I actually LOST 5 pounds! I was excited to know this but a bit confused, when I asked the doctor he said it's normal and that it's probably due to nausea and vomiting.
How big is baby: The size of a peach! Grow baby grow!
Maternity Clothes: Finally caved and bought some shorts and gauchos, looking forward to getting a bathing suit for our babymoon!
Sleep: Getting somewhat better. I woke up in the middle of the night and realized I was sleeping on my stomach, I freaked out! I was told it's ok to sleep on the stomach but it just makes me worry.
Best moment this week: Hearing the baby's heartbeat!!! Best sound in the world! 160 beats per minute!
Movement: None so far and probably not for a few more weeks.
Food cravings: I haven't been into meat, but lots of fruits & veggies, like I can't get enough of 'em!
Food aversions: Chicken. Had a grilled chicken wrap the other day, but everything else chicken related just isn't hitting the spot.
Gender:  Not sure yet. We were told we'd find out in 7 weeks!
Labor signs: None for a while!!!
Belly button in or out: In
What I miss: Fitting into summer clothes from last year.
What I'm not loving: Acid reflux, this stuff is not fun!
What I’m looking forward to: 1) car shopping 2) babymoon
Milestone(s): We are officially in the second trimester!

Baby's Development - Week 13

Here's your weekly update of the size of the baby and what's happening in his/her development! This article states that the 13th week is the last week of the first trimester, but I've read many other places where it is considered to be the first week of the second trimester; I'm not sure which it officially is, but either way, we've got a growing baby!

The Day We Found Out We Were Gonna Be Parents

Here are a few pictures I thought I'd share of the day we found out we were pregnant! My period was late so I thought what the heck and took a test. These were the results...

I love the look on Adam's face! I bought him a gift and was gonna have him open that first, but then I decided to just throw a hamburger bun in the oven to see if he could "guess" what I was trying to say; needless to say it was a bit of a puzzle and took him a few minutes to figure it out. But once he did, man are those pictures priceless!

Why wait for 12 weeks?

Adam and I decided early on in our pregnancy,  like literally the day we found out, that we'd tell our family and closest friends and then the rest of the world when we hit the 12 week mark. Doctors and midwives alike indicate that a couple is in the "safe" zone (i.e., the risk of miscarriage is not as high or as likely) after reaching the twelfth week mark.

We also chose to wait to tell the world because of my  job. I wanted to make sure I was going to get a contract to teach before letting the cat out of the bag at work, and there are some people I work with who I'm "facebook" friends with, so needless to say any information that could find it's way there could find its way to them, thus the caution. Now, to put your mind at ease, although I haven't signed my contract yet (we're still awaiting them) I have been told that if the county I work for was not going to hire me back, that they were to let me know by April 15, so thank goodness that day has come and gone and we're good to go!

So there you have it. Why we waited. From here on out you can expect documentation of this exciting journey. My goal is to post every Thursday with a picture for the week and how big the baby is courtesy of www.thebump.com!

Preggo Stats--Week 12

How far along: 12 weeks
Total weight gain: 1 lb
How big is baby: The size of a plum!
Maternity Clothes: Just bought something similar to a Bella band so I can wear some old summer shorts and capris. I'm good on most of my tops.
Sleep: Lately, not so great. I've been scared to sleep on my stomach, despite the fact that for weeks I was told it's ok. Needless to say I'm tired of sleeping on either of my sides.
Best moment this week: School's finally out! School actually got out May 31, but my last day was earlier this week on Wednesday (when we announced Baby Davis).
Movement: None so far.
Food cravings: Squash (yellow and zucchini) and bear claw donuts (the kind that have the chocolate on top and custard filling in the middle) -- yum!
Food aversions: None this week.
Gender:  Not sure yet.
Labor signs: None for a while!!!
Belly button in or out: In
What I miss: Being able to sleep on my stomach
What I'm not loving: Being a "super sniffer" as Adam calls me (I can smell everything and it's not always pleasant)!
What I’m looking forward to: Hearing the baby's heartbeat at the next appointment and going on our "babymoon"
Milestone(s): We announced we were pregnant the same day Adam proposed

Ultrasound - 9 weeks

This was our very first ultrasound! I was a bit nervous and anxious, but everything went great! We got to the center that administered the ultrasound and waited for about five minutes (the service was great)! And then were ushered back after taking care of some paperwork. The woman had me lie down on this chair that stretched out and asked me to pull down my pants and lift up my shirt--can we say goodbye comfort zone?! Then she put this jelly on my belly and in no time at all had the little thing-a-ma-bob on my stomach reading where our little one was. Although we couldn't hear anything, it was the neatest experience to see him/her on the screen, even though he/she didn't look like much. The picture above is one that is in the "Belly Book" that was given to me and as you can see an arrow is pointing directly to our little bun. Although our next ultrasound won't be until sometime during the second trimester, I already can't wait to see him/her again!

Coming Soon...

First off, let me begin by saying that it was three years ago today that Adam got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife (proposal)! And secondly, on this special day, we are proud to announce that coming this December we're expecting our first bundle of joy! Our tentative due date is December 20, 2012 and we couldn't be more excited about this next journey the Lord is bringing us to! We look forward to keeping you, our family and friends, updated along the way about our progress and to sharing milestones in the pregnancy with you! And just to keep you informed, currently, we are...
